The room is alive with the buzz of people milling about, navigating between chairs and each other.
Everyone is invited to choose an instrument and the random sounds of different instruments begin to sound as men, women and children test and hit their chosen instrument. Clang, ping, toc, boom, shhhk… sounds ring out, some tentative, some strong…then from one side of the circle, an African djembay beats out a rhythm as Christine begins to coax the group into a simple rhythmic pulse. Joe joins in with djembay or bell, strong and clear, providing an insistent pulse that brings the various sounds together into a unified driving force.
Bazza adds his beats with the standing Ashiko and the circle rocks in unison as beaming faces bounce back and forth off each other (the power of the circle bringing people face to face and belly to belly).
We focus our collective attention on our brothers and sisters in Angola and their children who need education. We invite you to join our drum circles and experience the joy of exuberant giving that ultimately benefits the giver as much as the receiver.
